* Walinas are songs dedicated to the element WATER, sung each October during the 8-day "Champería" festival in San Pedro de Casta, Huarochirí province, Peru, during which all the waterways are cleared out by the community. Together. (alternate spelling: "hualina" in Spanish). They are traditionally written, received and sung without chordal accompaniment.

Brand new walinas are created and sung each year to support the cleaning of said waterways - and it's quite a celebration, as was told to me by my teacher Kike Pinto, honorary member of la Comunidad Campesina de San Pedro de Casta (as is his dear friend Miguel Molina).
